The Ultimate Espresso Martini

1.5 oz Absolut Vodka
1 oz Kahlua
0.75 oz Espresso
0.5 oz Blended Scotch whisky (like Grant’s 12-year)
0.25 oz Lavender Syrup (or simple syrup)
1 Egg White (optional)
Garnish: coffee beans

Dry shake (no ice) all ingredients except for coffee beans in a shaker. Add ice and shake again for 15 seconds. Double strain into a coupe glass and garnish with coffee beans.

The resurgence of the Espresso Martini means that it’s appearing on drink menus all across the globe. It also means that there are tons of riffs and far be it for me to not weigh in and provide my own version of what I consider the ultimate espresso martini.

What makes this ultimate is the addition of lavender syrup - lending a subtle, floral nose as you sip it; and blended scotch whisky that gives it some added structure and complexity. The addition of egg white I find provides a nicer sustained and creamier texture but you can certainly skip it.
