Espresso Martini

1.5 oz Absolut Vodka
1 oz Espresso
2/3 oz Kahlua
1/4 oz Lavender Syrup
Garnish: coffee beans

Shake all ingredients except for coffee beans in an ice-filled shaker. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with coffee beans.

The Espresso Martini is having a moment.

The last time I had one was in the early 2000s and it was so bad that I chose to forget it. Immediately.

Now that it’s having a a resurgence, much like the schoolgirl Prada outfits of the late 90s (goodness how far have we come?!), those who imbibe now have a much higher standard that demands significantly better execution than in decades past.

There are many versions of the drink out there, but I like using the above precise measurements plus a special (now-not-so-secret) ingredient to bring out the nose of the espresso: lavender syrup.
